Second teenager arrested by Dutch police over Anonymous hacks

A second person has been arrested in the Netherlands in connection with the distributed denial of service attacks on various web properties such as PayPal and MasterCard orchestrated by the Anonymous group, according to reports.

The reports indicate the 19 year old was arrested in the municipality of Hoogezand-Sappemeer on Saturday, for attacking the web site of the Dutch national prosecutor in retaliation for the arrest of the first individual last week.

As Luis Corrons, technical director at Panda Security, said in a blog post, those using the LOIC (Low Orbit Ion Canon) tool provided by Anonymous to turn their PCs into botnets and carry out these attacks will be fairly easy to track as LOIC doesn't mask the IP address of the user.

That said, the Dutch police have a strong track record of working with the ISP community and other internet stakeholders to arrest cyber criminals and shut down malicious sites or botnet command and control channels.

It's interesting that both arrests have come in that country, for example, despite evidence from security firm Imperva suggesting that the majority of LOIC's 40,000+ downloaders are actually located in the US.
